TECHNICAL PRINCIPAL, PRESIDENT
Mr. Sohl joined DeStefano and Partners at its inception and was the lead Technical Principal with a focus on high-rise construction and technically complex projects. An expert on codes, life safety and building enclosure systems, Duane serves by mayoral appointment on the Chicago Building Department’s Committee on Standards and Tests, the City of Chicago Building Code Initiative and is former chair of the Chicago Committee on High-Rise Buildings, one of the most respected construction research groups in the country.
Duane was instrumental in developing and implementing the Managing Architect Delivery System that facilitated the design and construction of over 50 new schools and additions for the Chicago Public School’s $3 billion Capital Improvement Program. He served as Managing Director of the firm’s London office in 2000 and 2001. Since returning to the Chicago office in 2002, he has been the office technical lead and manager for international projects and numerous new construction and renovation projects in Chicago and Los Angeles.

Duane initiated his career in large scale and high rise architecture at SOM soon after graduation from college.
He rose quickly in the ranks of the technical architects, working on projects in the Middle East and the United States from intern drafting level through developing project design development and documentation as project technical coordinator.
In 1982, Duane was relocated to the Washington D.C. office and in 1987 to the London office. There he was promoted to Associate Partner.
